Seasonal Fluctuations - Redness and Dehydration

Unfortunately, dry, irritated and red skin goes hand-in-hand with the cooler winter months. For many of us, it is unavoidable at this time of year. However, there are measures you can take to return your skin to its usual glowing and healthy state.

Redness occurs because our bodies are trying to heat themselves, bringing blood close to the surface and dilating capillaries. Whilst youthful skin will bounce back, capillaries don't close as quickly with age.

Be kind to your skin by protecting it from the sudden flare-up of redness. At Simply Indulgent, we love our Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Facial Oil – perfect for this time of year to help shelter your skin from the harsher winter temperatures. It has subtle orange blossom scent and contain EFA's that nourish and protect the outer layer of the epidermis, as well as Vitamin C to help protect against the environment.

Hydrated skin is absolutely essential to help avoid redness. Exfoliate regularly to ensure your moisturiser can be most effective. You may need to review your current skincare regime, and adjust accordingly. Through our experience, we find that the Image Skincare Hyaluronic Filler is the absolute best to help with alleviating dehydration. Adding a serum will help boost moisture levels by feeding your skin the micro nutrients that it requires.

The Image Skincare Vital C product range is ideal for this time of year. The Intense Hydrating Moisturiser is particularly effective at providing essential moisture, as it contains shea butter. For the daytime, the creamy MD SPF 50 Moisturiser is fantastic and works to reduce the depth of lines and wrinkles, as well as hydrate the skin. Special tip from Fiona - add the Vital C oil to your moisturiser or body lotion - it works a treat!

What Else Can I Do?
Ensure that you cover your skin with a cotton scarf when heading outside. Cashmere and wool may look stylish, but can be incredibly irritating for the area around your mouth.

You can also help improve redness through changes to your diet. Avoid food and drinks that add 'fuel to the fire', such as alcohol and spicy foods. Introduce more 'cooling foods' such as celery, apple, cucumber, coconut, melon, each and spinach. Fish oils and prebiotics are helpful, as well as the incredible Beauty Oil from our range of Bestow products.

It has also been proven that the polyphenols in green tea have skin cell rejuvenating properties. Camomile and peppermint teas have also demonstrated benefits for facial redness.

At Simply Indulgent, we take a truly holistic approach to treating redness and other skin complaints. As the body's largest organ, the skin can reflect any number of internal imbalances. Healing from within, as well as an appropriate skincare regime, will be the most effective path to a lasting solution.
The team at Simply Indulgent are passionate about skin, and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Please contact us or do call in to see us if you have queries about Redness or other skin concerns.
